True Rovers Supporters

Posted on March 16, 2012 at 7:10 PM

Forza Rovers would like to respond to the very disappointing comments made by Conor O'Grady in his opinion piece in the Sligo Champion dated 14.03.12 where he stated “Our fans have been impeccably behaved for years but the supporters who light flares thus enforcing a fine on the club are not true Rovers Supporters.”

___

We feel his remarks were grossly unfair and have blackened the name of our supporters group.

___

We would like to clarify that Forza Rovers have always taken full responsibility for the actions our members in the past, and  fines imposed on the club from the FAI due to the actions of our members have been paid by the group. This money has come directly from the pockets of group members, not from donations we have received.

___

During the game against Shelbourne FC on the 02.03.12 pyrotechnics were ignited by Sligo Rovers supporters. The fine imposed on the club was paid for in full on the 10.03.12 by Forza Rovers.

___

We are also disappointed that the comments on the pyrotechnics are mentioned in the same paragraph as the incident concerning the Glentoran supporters’ bus. We would like to distance ourselves from this incident and condemn those involved.

___

Since Forza Rovers was formed in 2008 our group has spent countless hours on end and thousands of Euro’ improving the atmosphere at Rovers games through our vocal support, and large scale choreographed displays home and away, and we find the comments questioning our support of our club to be extremely unjust.

End of season message 2011

Posted on November 30, 2011 at 3:20 PM

We would like to thank all the players, management and staff at Rovers for what was yet again another historic year for Sligo Rovers Football club. We would also like to thanks all those involved with the club and the Rovers supporters who assisted us throughout the year in our activities.

...

2011 saw us attempt even larger scale choreos then in previous years, these would not have so successful without the participation of The Bit O’ Red supporters particularly for Vorslka in the Showgrounds and Shelbourne in the FAI cup final. We hope that next year we will have many more successful displays on the terraces that will inspire the Rovers team and supporters by showing our pride and love for our colors.

...

Once again we would like to thank everyone who contributed to our bucket collection at half time during the U.C.D. game on 28th of October to raisefunds for our cup final choreo. The response shown by The Bit O’ Red faithful was tremendous. We would also like to thank all who donated towards our displays throughout the year and those who bought our group merchandise.

...

Forza Rovers would also like to thank all those who were involved in providing us with transport throughout the country and also for organising transport in Ukraine. Without these services we wouldn’t have such an influence on the terraces.

...

As always we welcome anyone who wants to get involved with us in 2012 for what will be our  our 5th season as a group.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to our bucket collection at half time during the U.C.D. game to raise funds for our cup final choreo. The response shown by The Bit O’ Red faithful was tremendous, along with so many positive comments towards our group. We know times are tough for many, so these extremely generous contributions won't be forgotten. Thank you once again we really appreciated it.

Moving to the Railway End

Posted on June 23, 2011 at 1:48 PM

...

Forza Rovers will be moving to the Railway End this Friday the 24th of June for our game against Shams. This is not a decision we take likely and unfortunately this will mean we will have to cancel our planned choreo for the Jinks Avenue Stand.

...

We hope that all those who have stood with us on the Jinks over the past three seasons and those who want to improve the match day atmosphere will join us on the Railway End this Friday for what is the biggest game of our season so far. We are fully aware of the challenges this move will bring but believe this move is needed in order to revive the atmosphere in the Showgrounds.

...

At the moment our change of location is only temporary and we will review it in the coming days after the game.

...

C’mon The Bit O’ Red

End of season message 2010

Posted on December 14, 2010 at 5:32 PM

...

We would like to thank all the players, management and staff at Rovers for what was a historic year for our club. The commitment and team spirit shown by the players was truly immense and the memories will last a life time. A special mention to the volunteers who kept Rovers alive over the past 82 years, their passion and hard work was evident in what the club achieved this year. Our style of support on the terraces may differ but their commitment can only inspire us and will remain our biggest influence.

...

2010 was our busiest year in terms of displays since our group was founded in 2008. As we attempted bigger and more complicated displays in the stands we relied more on the general Rovers support for their participation. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed by the team and as always we appreciate your help. We would like to thank all supporters who donated towards our group in what was a very difficult year no matter how big or small it has all made a difference. Without your donations we would not have been as active in our displays on the terraces. We would also like to thank everyone who purchased any of our merchandise during the year. This has proved to be a major fund raiser for the group, we hope to continue this next year with many more new items.

...

This year we raised €1,380 for Rovers, although fundraising is not one our main aims as a group as many of our members are involved various other fundraisers we hope to continue this next year.

...

Once again we would like to thank all who was involved in providing transport for our group on the Dooley Express. As we travelled the length and breath of the country without this service we wouldn’t have such large numbers of support or have as big of a presence on the terraces. Sadly in May saw the passing of Tony Kelly.Tony was a regular on the Dooley Express and a loyal Rovers supporter. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

AVIVA For Vendetta

Posted on November 13, 2010 at 3:06 PM
..............

"The F.A.I. cup final of 1978 is one which all Rovers fans remember, with some bitterness, as an opportunity lost.

........

Shamrock Rovers were always the darlings of the Dublin press which made a victory over the hoops all the sweeter. On this occassion the club was being re-shaped. Johnny Giles had returned from England and was given the brief of turning Shams into one of the top teams in Europe. The club became a full-time professional outfit and Giles recruited seasoned international players such as Ray Treacy and Eamonn Dunphy to help achieve his aims. On a rain sodden Sunday afternoon Giles' team was outplayed by the men from the north-west only to be defeated by the worst piece of refereeing witnessed by any Rovers fan. The name of John Carpenter is infamous among Rovers fans for his display in this game. With three minutes of injury time played in the first half Shams winger Steve Lynex ran into the box with Rovers full-back Paul Fielding sheperding him towards the line. With little or no contact Lynex went down and Mr. Carpenter pointed to the spot. Ray Treacy converted the penalty.

.....

In the second half Rovers pushed forward looking for an equaliser. On two occasions Gary Hulmes was clear through put couldn't finish. Shams keeper Alan O'Neill produced an excellent display of goalkeeping to deny Rovers time and again. Shams held on for victory and for Rovers this was the bitterest pill of all. The penalty decision itself was a disgrace but this was only half the story. No trainer had been on the pitch in the first half. To add insult to injury Mr. Carpenter explained that the three minutes injury time was added on for time-wasting by Shamrock Rovers !! It later transpired that the referee had taken the pitch without his referee's card and he was disqualified as a result. Visits to the Showgrounds became even more uncomfortable for Giles and his men after this game."

Not Bitter, Just Better.

Posted on August 21, 2010 at 9:59 AM

.........

On the 17th of August 2010 Shams Ultras “Ireland’s Number One” travelled to the Showgrounds and had a pathetic attempt to wind up Rovers supporters. They unfurled a banner calling us the “BITTER REDS” unfortunately for them we had prior knowledge to this.

......

As Shams unfurled their banner we had a reply for them.

Without your donations many of our actions wouldn’t be possible. We would also like to thank everyone who purchased any of our merchandise during the year.
